nowCommon questions
- Why does the ranking not change when a top-10 player goes out?
- The ATP and WTA freeze their published rankings for the duration of a Grand Slam. A player can lose two thousand points on a Tuesday and still appear in the same position all week; the change only shows up in the release after the tournament ends.
- Does going out early always cost a player ranking points?
- No. It depends entirely on what they were defending. A player who went out in the first round last year has almost nothing to lose, so an early exit barely moves them. A defending champion loses two thousand points whatever happens, because those points expire with the edition.
